Fall 2006 Sports Wrap-Up

Greek League Football:
It seemed to rain just about every Saturday night and Sunday morning in Rochester this fall, and that severely limited the number of games played this quarter. With the fields often reduced to soup, we only played in 6 regular season games, but still managed to go undefeated. We played in the championship game against DSP, but due to some interesting scheduling by the intramural department, it was played on a field without lights in growing darkness. We jumped out to an early two touchdown lead, and despite a late push by DSP, we held on to win, 27 – 12, for our second consecutive Greek League Football Championship.

Intramural Basketball:
After finishing the regular season with only one loss (which was only by one point), our team appeared prime to take another basketball championship. Unfortunately, we played Unity House in the first round of the postseason, and unlike the first time we faced them, they had two of their better players there. In what was probably the most disappointing loss of the quarter, we lost by eight, cutting short our bid for a second title in three quarters.

Intramural Dodgeball:
We had a strong regular season in dodgeball, winning almost every game, only to run into the brick wall known as the RIT Baseball team yet again. In the second-to-last game of the season, we lost to them for the second time, four games to one, eliminating us from the championship game in the process. They have knocked us out of the ASA Dodgeball Tournament two straight years, and now have eliminated us from contention in a league by handing us our only two losses of the season.

Intramural Volleyball:
It is strange that we do so well in volleyball each quarter, because outside of Brian “The Law” Gilbane, nobody on the team has played much of it. For the third consecutive quarter, we seemed to win every game pretty handily. The championship game was a little closer, as it actually went to a third and deciding game, but we won, 25 – 15, keeping our undefeated volleyball streak alive.
