Altogether, nine brothers were inducted into the Phi Kappa Tau Hall of Fame. Guy Thomas Avery, Illinois ’16, Charlie Ball, Miami ’82, Michael E. Berry, Georgetown ’80, John Brasch, Louisville ’67, Owen L. Cotton, Oklahoma State ’59, Daniel M. Dauer, Old Dominion ’67, John A. Edwards, Ohio State ’57, Stanley D. McKenzie, RIT ’69, and Gary Proud, RIT ’66, received Hall of Fame plaques. Andrew McClenahan, Florida State ’88, accepted the plaque for Avery, his late grandfather.
Gary was also recognized for his membership in the Heritage Society, a group established to honor alumni and friends of the Fraternity who have made provisions for future generations of students through will bequests, life insurance, trusts and other planned gifts.
Brother Proud helped to start Kappa Phi Omega, which was later charted on April 2, 1966 as the Gamma Nu Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau where he served as Treasurer, Sergent-At-Arms, and two consecutive terms as Chapter President. He graduated from RIT with an Accounting degree, but went on to become a long-time public servant at the local and state legislatures. He has been an Alumni Adviser for the last 15+ years, has served on the Board of Governors, the Alumni Corporation, and is also the Upstate Domain Director. Gary currently resides in Rochester, and can be found on any given day at the Chapter House - usually reading a National Rifle Association magazine, or weeding out the garden - or at his land cultivating pumkens and shooting at empty soda cans.
Their induction marks the first time any Gamma Nu Brother has been honored with this distinction. The induction ceremony will be held this Saturday at the Brotherhood Banquet in Lexington, Kentucky, part of this year's Convention celebration.
